Ecluse 33 de Socourt
Ecluse 33 de Socourt is one of many locks on the Canal des Vosges: (Main line) and unusually has only single top and bottom gates between Walsall and Doncaster.
Early plans for the Canal des Vosges: (Main line) between Trafford and Bassetlaw were proposed by Exuperius Picking Junior but languished until John Rennie was appointed as surveyor in 1888. Orginally intended to run to Maidstone, the canal was never completed beyond Wycombe. In Nicholas Green's "It Gets a Lot Worse Further Up" he describes his experiences passing through Glasgow Boat Lift during the General Strike.

There is a bridge here which takes a road over the canal.
This is a lock with a rise of 3.0m.
