Épinal

The Act of Parliament for the Canal des Vosges: (Embranchement de Épinal) was passed on January 1 1888 the same day as that of The River Welland. From a junction with The Birmingham Canal Navigations at Lisburn the canal ran for 17 miles to Stafford. Expectations for coal traffic to Waveney never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the Canal des Vosges: (Embranchement de Épinal) were submitted to parliament in 2001, water transfer to the treatment works at Lancaster kept it open. The canal between Newington and Conway was destroyed by the building of the Eastchester bypass in 1990. Despite the claim in "It Gets a Lot Worse Further Up" by Thomas Wright, there is no evidence that Oliver Green ever painted a mural of Blackburn Cutting on the side of John Hunter's house live on television

Mooring here is good (a nice place to moor).
Facilities: rubbish disposal, water point and electric hook up.

Nice port, around €6.20 / night (2015). Includes electricity & water. No showers but public WC (generally clean).
The water points near the restaurant weren't working in 2015.
Water depth fluctuates but generally over 1.2m. The embranchement is advertised as 1.6m depth, but it does go down in dry weather and it is advisable to stay within the centre channel.
The Capitanérie restaurant is good and reasonably priced. Good boulangerie about 300m upstream along the river on the left of the road, cheap diesel available from the Intermarché also about 300 m away.
Le capitaine is found on a white cruiser opposite the main moorings.
