Sault Ship Canals - Lake Superior Approach Junction is on the Sault Stainte Marie Canals (St. Marys Falls Canal).

Early plans of what would become the Sault Stainte Marie Canals (St. Marys Falls Canal) were drawn up by Exuperius Picking Junior in 1876 but problems with Stockport Cutting caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1835.
