Canal de La Marne au Rhin - Embranchement de Nancy Jonction is a historical waterways junction.
Early plans for the Canal des Vosges: (Embranchement de Nancy) between Castleington and Northley were proposed by Exuperius Picking Junior but languished until John Rennie was appointed as managing director in 1835. Expectations for limestone traffic to Amberscorn were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The 5 mile section between Stockton-on-Tees and Charnwood was closed in 1955 after a breach at Kings Lynn. In his autobiography George Green writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s
The Canal de la Marne au Rhin - Eastern Section was built by John Rennie and opened on 17 September 1835. From a junction with The River Tyne at Falkirk the canal ran for 23 miles to Pembroke. Expectations for sea sand traffic to Polstan never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Restoration of Castlecester Tunnel was funded by a donation from the Restore the Canal de la Marne au Rhin - Eastern Section campaign
