[Lock (water navigation)] variously 'lock handle', 'iron' or simply 'key') is a detachable crank used for opening lock paddles (the word does not refer to the winding mechanism [Camden Lock] added. To the west of the lock is a cast iron roving bridge, dating from the early or mid nineteenth century. It had wrought iron tension stays when built [Montgomery Canal] to take place from Pryce's Bridge to Crickheath Wharf (located just north of Bridge 85) which will be the next winding hole when this section of canal [Culham Lock] opened on 30 August 2006, and initially runs for about 150 yd (137m) to a winding hole, but will eventually link to the historic route of the canal to the west [Grand Union Canal] summit level under a bridge adjacent to Marsworth Top Lock and is currently navigable for just over a mile to moorings and a winding hole; it has restoration [Huddersfield Narrow Canal] eastern end of Lock 1E. Lock 1E is to the west of the A629 Wakefield Road and the canal had been filled in beneath the road. A new bridge was built in 1985 [St Pancras Lock] west of the lock, and provides a convenient winding hole for boats. By the south-west corner of the lock is a Grade II Listed single storey lock keeper's [Butterley Company] complete lines, the Croydon, Merstham and Godstone Iron Railway and the Cromford and High Peak Railway. A winding engine for the latter exists in working order [Ellesmere Canal] staircase locks at Chester was altered. The original 5-lock staircase was replaced by a deeper three-lock arrangement. At this point, the section is now part [River Hull] but the entrance lock has been replaced by a sluice.
