For any boat to enter a narrow lock, it must [Stone, Staffordshire] and delicate wares were prone to breakages over the rough terrain. James Brindley, the canal builder, put forward the scheme to build what he called the [Water levels of the Birmingham Canal Navigations] historical level, no longer existing. The highest level designed by James Brindley for his Birmingham Canal (BCN Old Main Line). Removed by John Smeaton's [Engine Arm] for residential moorings. When the Birmingham Canal was authorised by Act of Parliament in February 1767, the engineer James Brindley had expected to [Oxford Canal] by the celebrated engineer James Brindley, assisted by Samuel Simcock who was also Brindley's brother-in-law. Brindley died in 1772, when the canal had [Ansty, Warwickshire] ribbon-making trade early in the 19th century, but declined in the 1830s. James Brindley completed the section of the Oxford Canal through Ansty in 1771. In November [Grand Union Canal (old)] route does not keep as strictly to contours as the early canals of James Brindley did; the worst potential diversions were avoided by cuttings, embankments [Caldon Canal] lock of the Stoke flight on the Trent & Mersey canal. A statue of James Brindley, the engineer for the Trent & Mersey main line, stands near the junction [Four Counties Ring] turned into a dry dock and the short stretch of canal above it is used as moorings.
