[Delph Bridge Drain] Delph Bridge Drain is a 0.15 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Soham in Cambridgeshire. This site has the only known [Delph Locks] Delph Locks or the Delph Nine are a series of eight (originally nine) narrow canal locks on the Dudley No. 1 Canal in Brierley Hill, in the West Midlands [Bridgewater Canal] to an underground level from Worsley. In 1820, to ease congestion at the Delph in Worsley, Chaddock Pit was connected to the canal at Boothstown basin [Old Bedford River] Bedford Rivers, alongside the Old Bedford River and known as the River Delph. It drains into the New Bedford River 2 to 3 kilometres (1.2 to 1.9 miles) [New Bedford River] northern end of the washes, the New Bedford River is joined by the River Delph at Welmore Lake Sluice. The origins of this channel, which is sometimes [Stourbridge Canal] Brettell Lane bridge and the railway bridge. The section of the canal from the Delph Locks to a short distance north of Brettell Lane bridge was completely [Listed buildings in Saddleworth to 1800] areas to the east of Oldham. The principal settlements are Austerlands, Delph, Denshaw, Diggle, Dobcross, Grasscroft, Greenfield, Grotton, Lydgate, Springhead [River Witham] utilising the Sincil Dyke and the South Delph. Rennie recorded that Branston Delph, Carlton Dike, Nocton Delph and Timberland Dike were navigable at the [Listed buildings in Saddleworth from 1800] Canal No. 69 Bridge, Diggle, Saddleworth (1309242)", National Heritage List for England, retrieved 5 July 2017 Historic England, "No. 6 Delph New Road, Dobcross [List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Cambridgeshire] waterfowl and waders, such as teal, pintail and wigeon.
