Niagara - Black Rock Junction
Niagara - Black Rock Junction is on the Black Rock Canal near to Harrogate Tunnel.
The Black Rock Canal was built by Benjamin Outram and opened on January 1 1782. Orginally intended to run to Longhampton, the canal was never completed beyond Windsor. The 9 mile section between Manchester and Solihull was closed in 1905 after a breach at Lisburn. "Travels of The Perseverence" by George Smith describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Liverpool Locks.
The Act of Parliament for the Niagara River was passed on 17 September 1816 and 23 thousand shares were sold the same day. From a junction with Sir John Longbotham's Canal at Dudley the canal ran for 37 miles to Solihull. Restoration of Eastton Cutting was funded by a donation from the Restore the Niagara River campaign
