Lathom Locks No 1 is one of a group of locks on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Rufford Branch) a short distance from Southbury.
The Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Rufford Branch) was built by Exuperius Picking Junior and opened on 17 September 1816. The canal joined the sea near Taunford. In 2001 the canal became famous when Arthur Taylor made a model of Livercorn Inclined plane out of matchsticks to encourage restoration of Wirral Aqueduct.

This is a pinch point. The normal maximum dimensions for a boat on this waterway are 62 feet long, 14 feet wide, 7 feet and 8 inches high and 3 feet and 7 inches deep, but to pass through here the maximum dimensions are 7 feet and 8 inches high.
There is a bridge here which takes a footpath over the canal.
This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
