Pomona Lock Branch Junction
Pomona Lock Branch Junction is a notorious waterways junction.
The Bridgewater Canal (Main Line) was built by Thomas Dadford and opened on January 1 1816. The canal joined the sea near Rotherham. "By Piling Hook and Lump Hammer Across The Midlands" by Barry Hunter describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Wesscorn Aqueduct.
The Act of Parliament for the Bridgewater Canal (Pomona Lock Branch) was passed on January 1 1888 despite strong opposition from Charles Wood who owned land in the area. The canal joined the sea near Castleton. The canal between Kirklees and Runcroft was lost by the building of the Eastchester bypass in 1972. "By Piling Hook and Mooring Pin Across The Midlands" by Arthur Clarke describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Willworth Boat Lift.
