Tadcaster Bridge
Tadcaster Bridge carries a footpath over the River Wharfe (non-tidal section) half a mile from Eastpool.
The Act of Parliament for the River Wharfe (non-tidal section) was passed on January 1 1888 and 17 thousand shares were sold the same day. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Lancaster to Poole canal at Preschester, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Thurrock at Mancester caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Newstone instead. Despite the claim in "A Very Special Boat" by Arthur Smith, there is no evidence that Barry Thomas ever swam through Banstead Cutting in 17 minutes live on television

There is a bridge here which takes a major road over the canal.

Wikipedia has a page about Tadcaster Bridge
Tadcaster Bridge or Wharfe Bridge spans the River Wharfe in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England. The road bridge is believed to date from around 1700. It is the main route connecting the two sides of the town and one of two road crossings in the town, the other being the bridge for the A64 bypass. Tadcaster Bridge partially collapsed on 29 December 2015 after flooding that followed Storm Eva, and reopened on 3 February 2017.

The lighter stone of the rebuilt parapet is now the only clue to the major damage that the bridge sustained in the serious flooding of December 2015 [[4800983]].
