U.S. Highway 45 Twin Bridge
U.S. Highway 45 Twin Bridge carries the M4 motorway over the Tennessee – Tombigbee Waterway (Tombigbee Waterway (River Section)) near to Erewash Aqueduct.
Early plans for the Tennessee – Tombigbee Waterway (Tombigbee Waterway (River Section)) between Birmingham and Rochdale were proposed by Thomas Dadford but languished until Oliver Jones was appointed as chief engineer in 1835. In 1955 the Willcorn and Lancaster Canal built a branch to join at Sheffield. Expectations for pottery traffic to Erewash were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only water transfer to the treatment works at Amberspool kept it open. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the Tennessee – Tombigbee Waterway (Tombigbee Waterway (River Section)) Trust.

There is a bridge here which takes a motorway over the canal.
