[Grantham Canal] agriculture, and so most of it remained in water after closure, although bridges were lowered. Since the 1970s, the Grantham Canal Society have been working [Eaton, Leicestershire] to the village was a bridge passing under Stathern Road. On 1 January 1883, the GNR opened their line from Marefield Junction, [List of places in Leicestershire] Stanford Hall, Stanton under Bardon, Stapleford, Stapleton, Staunton Harold, Stathern, Stockerston, Stoke Golding, Stonesby, Stoney Stanton, Stoneygate, Stonton [Eaton Branch Railway] and passed under the Eaton to Stathern road, immediately on the west side of Eaton village. Just past the road bridge, was a loading stage for the tramways [Harby, Leicestershire] The Marquis of Granby stood opposite the junction of Boyers Orchard in Stathern Lane, as one of many named after John Manners, Marquess of Granby. Now [Rushcliffe] Trent. Villages in the Vale of Belvoir include Redmile, Hickling, Harby, Stathern and Langar. Some of these villages cross the county boundary; some have [Bingham railway station] Nicholson, c. 1865 J. W. Page (afterwards station master at Harby and Stathern) Charles Richardson, 1877–1898 George Tagg Mr Chandler, up to 1902 (afterwards [Bottesford, Leicestershire] Baptist). The poet George Crabbe (1754–1832) moved to Muston Rectory from Stathern in 1789, remaining as incumbent of Muston and of West Allington, Lincolnshire
