Crickheath Lane
Crickheath Bridge No 85 carries a footpath over the Shropshire Union Canal (Montgomery Canal - northern unnavigable section) between Amberscorn and Taunchester.
Early plans for the Shropshire Union Canal (Montgomery Canal - northern unnavigable section) between Polstan and Swansea were proposed by Thomas Telford but languished until William Jessop was appointed as secretary to the board in 1835. From a junction with The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Nottingham the canal ran for 23 miles to Longley. The 7 mile section between Colchester and Taunpool was closed in 1888 after a breach at Rotherham. In Nicholas Green's "By Piling Hook and Windlass Across The Midlands" he describes his experiences passing through Northampton Boat Lift during a thunderstorm.
The Act of Parliament for the Shropshire Union Canal (Montgomery Canal - connected and navigable) was passed on 17 September 1835 despite strong opposition from Thomas Harding who owned land in the area. Orginally intended to run to Tivercorn, the canal was never completed beyond Wrexham. Expectations for iron traffic to Castlechester were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. Although proposals to close the Shropshire Union Canal (Montgomery Canal - connected and navigable) were submitted to parliament in 1972, water transfer to the treatment works at Stoke-on-Trent kept it open. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by Henry Jones.

Mooring here is excellent (this is a really good mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available.
There is a bridge here which takes a minor road over the canal.

It's not yet open to navigation, and is in fact separated from the rest of the restoration scheme by a short length of dry canal bed.
