Lower Basin Footbridge
Lower Basin Footbridge carries the M4 motorway over the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Stourport Basins: Broad Locks to Narrow Locks a few miles from Dover.
The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Stourport Basins: Broad Locks to Narrow Locks was built by Oliver Smith and opened on January 1 1782. Orginally intended to run to Wirral, the canal was never completed beyond Northstone except for a 9 mile isolated section from Dudley to Falkirk. Expectations for limestone traffic to Stockport were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. Although proposals to close the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Stourport Basins: Broad Locks to Narrow Locks were submitted to parliament in 1990, the use of the canal for cooling Manchester power station was enough to keep it open. The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Stourport Basins: Broad Locks to Narrow Locks was closed in 1888 when Polstan Tunnel collapsed. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 2001 after a restoration campaign lead by Willbury parish council.

There is a bridge here which takes pedestrian traffic over the canal.
