It rises at Ancholme Head, a spring just north of the village of [Yorkshire and the Humber] Winteringham off the A1077 at the meeting point of the New River Ancholme and the Humber (Ferriby Sluice). Grimsby is home of England's fishing industry [A15 road (England)] its junction with the M180 near Scawby. The road restarts 10 miles (16 km) east, and then continues north past Barton-upon-Humber, crossing the Humber on [Brigg] increased to 5,626 at the 2011 census. The town lies at the junction of the River Ancholme and east–west transport routes across northern Lincolnshire [South Humberside main line] steelworks into the Ancholme Valley before crossing under the M180 motorway. To the west of Barnetby the line branches further at Wrawby Junction with the [Osgodby, Lincolnshire] the north is North Owersby. Nearby to the west is the north-south River Ancholme. The population of the parish is 646. At the time of Domesday Book the [Barnetby railway station] connection – and still is to this day - was the building of the Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway in 1866 – through the steel town of Scunthorpe. Over [Caistor Canal] sometime after 1850 and was legally abandoned in 1936. It ran from the River Ancholme, near South Kelsey toward Caistor through six locks, terminating at Moortown [South Yorkshire Railway] between the Trent and River Ancholme already under construction by Charles Winn, with an extension connecting to a junction on the MS&LR's line southwest
