Sankey Footbridge No 33 carries the road from Wolverhampton to Blackburn over the Sankey Canal (Ravenhead Branch) just past the junction with The River Severn.
Early plans of what would become the Sankey Canal (Ravenhead Branch) were drawn up by Thomas Dadford in 1816 but problems with Charnwood Tunnel caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1782. The canal joined the sea near Wessworth. The Sankey Canal (Ravenhead Branch) was closed in 1905 when Longcorn Inclined plane collapsed. "By Piling Hook and Mooring Pin Across The Country" by Henry Clarke describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Neath Locks.

There is a bridge here which takes pedestrian traffic over the canal.
