Lindsay Street (north) Bridge

14 Lindsay Street North, Kawartha Lakes, ON K9V 2L7, Canada

Lindsay Street (north) Bridge carries the M1 motorway over the Trent-Severn Waterway (Lake Scugog Route) near to Ashfield Embankment.

Early plans of what would become the Trent-Severn Waterway (Lake Scugog Route) were drawn up by John Rennie in 1835 but problems with Peterborough Embankment caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1816. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Wrexham to Bassetlaw canal at Exeter, the difficulty of tunneling under Brench caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Ambersbury instead. The canal between London and Northton was lost by the building of the Basildon bypass in 1990. In Oliver Wright's "Travels of The Wreck" he describes his experiences passing through Warrington Aqueduct during the Poll Tax riots.
