[Pinxton] Pinxton is a village and civil parish in Derbyshire on the eastern boundary of Nottinghamshire, England, just south of the Pinxton Interchange at Junction [Mansfield and Pinxton Railway] 1°13′28″W / 53.13250°N 1.22444°W / 53.13250; -1.22444 The Mansfield and Pinxton Railway was an early horse-drawn railway in the United Kingdom. It was [Cromford Canal] Cromford to the Erewash Canal in Derbyshire, England with a branch to Pinxton. Built by William Jessop with the assistance of Benjamin Outram, its alignment [Cromford Wharf] Cromford Wharf is at Cromford in Derbyshire, England. It is located at the northern terminus of the Cromford Canal, which opened in 1794 and ran 14.5 miles [Mansfield railway station, Nottinghamshire] Midlands Railway. The town was originally the terminus of the Mansfield and Pinxton Railway, built in 1819. It was bought by the Midland Railway, which used [Butterley Company] assistance of Benjamin Outram, constructed the Cromford Canal to connect Pinxton and Cromford with the Erewash Canal. In digging Butterley Tunnel for the [Charnwood Forest Canal] responded to this by proposing a railway line extending from the Mansfield and Pinxton Railway, which had been opened in 1819. This eventually led to the building [Derby Friargate railway station] Stapleford and Sandiacre Long Eaton (1847-1863) Long Eaton (1863-1967) Trent Pinxton branch line Eastwood and Langley Mill Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast [Eastwood and Langley Mill railway station] Awsworth Junction, where it crossed the Giltbrook Viaduct, on the way to Pinxton.
