Amenities nearby at Autherley Narrows (northern end)
Forster Bridge (No.68) was named after the Forster family who tenanted nearby Wobaston Manor for many generations. It was just an accommodation bridge for a farm track until the new road was built just before the Second World War to ease access to Boulton Paul's new works. The small foundations of the old bridge contrast with the large concrete slabs of the present busy one and the rock cutting, shaded by the bridge, gives an impression of what the whole of the Rockin' must have looked like when first cut.

![Marsh Lane Narrows near Fordhouses in Wolverhampton. Looking south towards Forster Bridge and Autherley Junction. Forster Bridge is No 68 across the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, which is cut through the sandstone as a very narrow channel here. A boat is approaching from the south, so I have to wait here![[[7663406]]] by Roger D Kidd – 27 May 2015](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/07/66/33/7663392_af6d9326_120x120.jpg)

![Marsh Lane Narrows at Forster Bridge, near Wolverhampton. The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, carved as a cutting into the sandstone bedrock, is less than the width of two boats. A passing place for two boats (maximum - but with difficulty if they are 70 footers) is just south of the bridge; the camera position is there. The approaching narrowboat is in the thinnest part of the canal and is moving very slowly. Sometimes you can meet a procession of boats coming through, so waiting is protracted, but if a procession is also behind you ... oh what fun! :-)Sequence: a passage north through the narrows #7.
