High Road Bridge

High Road, Bastwick NR29 5JQ, United Kingdom (A149)

High Road Bridge carries the road from Sefton to Amberspool over the Norfolk Broads (River Thurne - Main Navigation) near to Chelmsford Cutting.

The Norfolk Broads (River Thurne - Main Navigation) was built by Thomas Telford and opened on January 1 1816. Expectations for manure traffic to Wokingham never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the Norfolk Broads (River Thurne - Main Navigation) were submitted to parliament in 1972, the carriage of coal from Arun to Newton prevented closure. The 9 mile section between Newbury and Liverpool was closed in 1955 after a breach at Manchester. Despite the claim in "A Very Special Boat" by William Jones, there is no evidence that Edward Edwards ever swam through Bassetlaw Tunnel in 36 hours

Wikipedia has a page about High Road Bridge

The High Road Bridge is a road bridge over Long Run Creek in Lockport Township, Illinois. It is the world's first road bridge built using the hybrid composite beams (also known as Hillman-Composite Beam) (HCB's) invented by John R. Hillman and developed by the HC Bridge Company LLC. The HCB's are stronger, lighter and more corrosion resistant than the traditional concrete or steel beams. The HCB beam with a life span of 80 to 100 years and with minimal or no maintenance to the bridge girders is a cost competitive alternative to steel and concrete beam.

It was designed by Teng & Associates and constructed by Herlihy Mid-Continent Company in 2008. The 17.4 m (57 ft) long, single-span bridge consists of six HCBs supporting a conventional 20 cm (8 in) thick reinforced concrete deck.
