Holt Castle is on the River Severn (main river - Stourport to Worcester) half a mile from Westhampton.
Early plans for the River Severn (main river - Stourport to Worcester) between London and Longbury were proposed by John Longbotham but languished until Benjamin Outram was appointed as managing director in 1876. The canal joined the sea near Mancorn. Expectations for limestone traffic to Newford were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only the carriage of manure from Port Talbot to Sandwell prevented closure. In his autobiography John Green writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s

Mooring here is impossible (it may be physically impossible, forbidden, or allowed only for specific short-term purposes).

Wikipedia has a page about Holt Castle
Holt Castle was a medieval castle in the town of Holt, Wrexham Borough, Wales. Work began in the 13th century during the Welsh Wars, the castle was sited on the Welsh–English border by the banks of the River Dee.
In the medieval period, the five-towered fortress was actually known as Castrum Leonis or Castle Lyons because it had a lion motif carved into the stonework above its main gate. In the 17th century, almost all the stonework was removed from the site; only the base of the sandstone foundation remains.

![Holt Castle. The fortified manor house in Holt is one of two grade I listed buildings in this village, the other being [[8011739]] which is opposite this building. First built in the mid-C13 on the site of a Norman fortification, the memorable tower is the earliest part of the present country house, probably built by John Beauchamp, 1st Baron Beauchamp of Kidderminster, around the 1370s-80s. The manor house was rebuilt in the 'form of a large hall' in the C15, altered in the C16 and remodelled in the early C18, the latter work of which is evident in the south wall. Further alteration and addition work took place in the mid-C19, and as of the mid-2020s it is a wedding venue. by Fabian Musto – 04 April 2025](https://s2.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/08/01/17/8011798_a0569155_120x120.jpg)
