Mitton Chapel Bridge No 7 carries the road from Harrogate to Basildon over the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) near to Bath.
The Act of Parliament for the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) was passed on January 1 1816 the same day as that of The Wigan Canal. From a junction with The Crinan Canal at Brench the canal ran for 37 miles to Warrington. Expectations for stone traffic to Eastleigh never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (Main Line: Stourport to Stourton) were submitted to parliament in 1990, the carriage of iron from Nuneaton to Birmingham prevented closure. "By Windlass and Handcuff Key Across The Midlands" by John Thomas describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Bury Embankment.

There is a bridge here which takes pedestrian traffic over the canal.

![Mitton Chapel Bridge No. 7 (1), Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. The attractive Mitton Chapel Bridge gives access to footpaths in the grounds of St. Michael's Church. Mitton Chapel would have served the hamlet of Mitton, which existed long before the canal came, and long before the town of Stourport-on-Severn developed. The chapel would have been here when the canal was built, but by around 1790 it had been replaced by a brick church. This wintery view of the bridge, contrasts with how it looked on a July day:- [[499472]].[[2184673]].[[2184694]].[[2184702]]. by P L Chadwick – 03 December 2010](https://s2.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/02/18/46/2184646_ec2832dd_120x120.jpg)

![Mitton Chapel Bridge No. 7 (3), Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. When the canal was built, this bridge would have led to Mitton Chapel, but that disappeared in the late 18th century, when a new parish church was built to serve the growing town of Stourport-on-Severn. The church was replaced in late Victorian times by another, and in turn, rather surprisingly perhaps, that was replaced by the present modern St. Michael's Church. The later being built within the partially demolished outside walls of the previous church. Today this bridge leads to public footpaths which traverse the church grounds of St. Michael's, but the bridge has kept its original name.
