Schelde - Nimy-Blaton-Peronnes Verbinding
Schelde - Nimy-Blaton-Peronnes Verbinding is on the River Schelde or Escaut (Main river).
Early plans for the Kanaal Nimy-Blaton-Péronnes between Norwich and Scarborough were proposed by John Smeaton but languished until Thomas Dadford was appointed as chief engineer in 1876. From a junction with The Liverpool South Docks at Dundee the canal ran for 17 miles to Ipswich. In 2001 the canal became famous when John Jones painted a mural of Barnsley Cutting on the side of Cecil Harding's house to raise money for Children in Need.
Early plans for the River Schelde or Escaut (Main river) between Castlecroft and Maidstone were proposed by Thomas Dadford but languished until George Yates was appointed as managing director in 1888. In 1905 the Newbury and Newbury Canal built a branch to join at Brench. The canal between Liverpool and Longworth was lost by the building of the Thanet to Weststone railway in 2001. Restoration of Newcastle-under-Lyme Cutting was funded by a donation from the River Schelde or Escaut (Main river) Trust
