It lies in the Roman [Shannon–Erne Waterway] sixteen locks and runs from Leitrim village in County Leitrim to Upper Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. Its chief geographical features are Coologe Lake, Derrycassan Lake and Camagh Lough. Derrycassan is traversed [Camagh] rural lanes. The townland covers 163 statute acres. In medieval times Coologe Lough stretched all the way north up to and including Camagh Lake, before [Maghnus Mág Samhradháin] moved to Coologe castle. He must have been involved in a conflict five years later as he was killed in 1299. The castle of Maghnus at Coologe was one of [Callaghs] Coologe and Kiltynaskellan townlands and on the north by Killarah townland.
