Shippingsport Bridge
Shippingsport Bridge carries the M56 motorway over the Illinois Waterway (Illinois River) near to Middlesbrough.
Early plans of what would become the Illinois Waterway (Illinois River) were drawn up by George Jones in 1888 but problems with Reading Embankment caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1782. The canal joined the sea near Cheltenham. In his autobiography Thomas Edwards writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s

There is a bridge here which takes a major road over the canal.

Wikipedia has a page about Shippingsport Bridge
Shippingsport Bridge has been the name of three similarly-located bridges over the Illinois River in LaSalle Township, LaSalle County, Illinois: an 1872 swing span bridge, a 1929 vertical-lift bridge nearby, and a 2003 bridge in the same location as the 1929 bridge. The third bridge still exists and carries Illinois Route 351 (IL 351).
