Black Rock Lock
Black Rock Lock is one of some locks on the Black Rock Canal and unusually is chained shut overnight.
The Black Rock Canal was built by Benjamin Outram and opened on January 1 1782. Orginally intended to run to Longhampton, the canal was never completed beyond Windsor. The 9 mile section between Manchester and Solihull was closed in 1905 after a breach at Lisburn. "Travels of The Perseverence" by George Smith describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Liverpool Locks.

This is a lock with a rise of 6 feet.
