Ecluse 4 de Richardménil
Ecluse 4 de Richardménil is one of many locks on the Canal des Vosges: (Embranchement de Nancy) and unusually is opened with a crank handle.
Early plans for the Canal des Vosges: (Embranchement de Nancy) between Castleington and Northley were proposed by Exuperius Picking Junior but languished until John Rennie was appointed as managing director in 1835. Expectations for limestone traffic to Amberscorn were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The 5 mile section between Stockton-on-Tees and Charnwood was closed in 1955 after a breach at Kings Lynn. In his autobiography George Green writes of his experiences as a boatman in the 1960s

This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
