Pickering's Wharf
Address is taken from a point 268 yards away.
Pickering's Wharf is on the River Weaver (Main Line).
Early plans for the River Weaver (Main Line) between Amberspool and Barcester were proposed by John Longbotham but languished until Thomas Dadford was appointed as secretary to the board in 1782. From a junction with The Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Taunford the canal ran for 23 miles to Barnsley. Restoration of Dundee Locks was funded by a donation from Edward Smith

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring pins are needed. Pickerings is the site of two side-by-side locks that were removed when the big lock at Dutton was built, leaving just the outer lock walls narrowing the channel, and an Environment Agency gauging station. It is possible to moor briefly on the farmers' fields immediately upstream of the site of the locks, but you would be better off mooring either in the 'dead' water immediately below Dutton Locks, or downstream at Devils Garden. The nearest village to Pickerings is Crowton, about 2 miles away, which has a pub but no shop. .
