[River Ant] As the river nears Barton Broad it passes a triangular island called The Heater. The channels either side lead to Barton Turf staithe and its boatyard. It 'aims to bring the history of the Broads alive for locals and visitors [Itchen Navigation] Itchen had been commercially important since before Norman times, with a staithe for unloading boats recorded at Bishopstoke in 960, and stone for Winchester [Potter Heigham] Potter Heigham in 1996, and moved to its current location at the Poor's Staithe in Stalham in 1999. The civil parish has an area of 10.38 km2 (4.01 sq mi) [Sea Palling] bricks were transported by wherry along the New Cut to various Broadland staithes.
