Stowe Hill Water Point

Weedon Bec Water Point, Watling Street, Church Stowe NN7 4RY, United Kingdom

Stowe Hill Water Point is on the Grand Union Canal (Grand Junction Canal - Main Line - Norton to Gayton) near to Neath.

The Act of Parliament for the Grand Union Canal (Grand Junction Canal - Main Line - Norton to Gayton) was passed on January 1 1782 the same day as that of The Melton Mowbray Navigation. In 1955 the Barbury and Macclesfield Canal built a branch to join at Liverpool. Despite the claim in "By Lump Hammer and Mooring Pin Across The Midlands" by Thomas Taylor, there is no evidence that Edward Harding ever navigated Aylesbury Locks in a bathtub

Information about the place
Stowe Hill Water Point is a minor waterways place on the Grand Union Canal (Grand Junction Canal - Main Line - Norton to Gayton) between Weedon Station Bridge No 24 (7¼ furlongs to the northwest) and Heyford Wharf Bridge No 32 (Nether Heyford village half a mile northeast. Many moored boats in this area) (1 mile and 6¾ furlongs to the east).

The nearest place in the direction of Weedon Station Bridge No 24 is Weedon Wharf Bridge No 25; 1½ furlongs away.

The nearest place in the direction of Heyford Wharf Bridge No 32 is Stowe Hill Bridge No 26 (Milepost 10); 1 furlong away.

Mooring here is excellent (this is a really good mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Picturesque moorings either side of water point, from Br 26 extending several hundred meters. Narrowboat Inn is nearby and Weedon village is 20 mins walk away. The busy London train line is far enough away as not to be a nuisance, unlike the moorings closer to Weedon.

Facilities: water point.
