ENTERING LOUGH NEAGH - The port and starboard navigation markers at the entrance to Lough Neagh are reversed as the bouyage is taken as inwards from Lough Neagh to Toomebridge Canal. (The port red mark is on the west side of the canal entrance and the green starboard is on the east side).

[River Bann] Lower Bann combined, being 129 km (80 mi). However, the total length of the River Bann, including its path through the 30 km (19 mi) long Lough Neagh is [Portadown] Canal, opened in 1742, linked Carlingford Lough and the Irish Sea with Lough Neagh. It joined the River Bann a couple of miles to the southeast of Portadown [Maghery] of Lough Neagh, near Derrywarragh Island, in the northwest corner of the county. As it sits between the estuaries of the rivers Blackwater and Bann (which [M1 motorway (Northern Ireland)] across the Pound River, south of Lough Neagh, before its junction with the M12 at Craigavon. Crossing the River Bann it then enters a relatively unpopulated [Lurgan] town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, near the southern shore of Lough Neagh. Lurgan is about 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Belfast and is linked [A6 road (Northern Ireland)] as the B183. On the Toome Bypass, the A6 crosses the River Bann between Lough Neagh and Lough Beg to enter County Londonderry. 2.2 miles after it starts [Craigavon, County Armagh] Craigavon lies on an area of flat land near the southeastern shore of Lough Neagh. The surrounding settlements (listed clockwise) are Aghacommon (north) [List of rivers of Europe] Main (473.2 km). This course has the highest volume at each following junction. The Pegnitz, for the first 15 km known as Fichtenhohe, joins after 127 [Northern Counties Committee] a lattice bridge with a swing section across the River Bann near its outflow from Lough Neagh.
