Daventry Basin Lock
Daventry Basin Lock is one of a long flight of locks on the Daventry Canal; it was rebuilt after it collapsed in 1955 near to Eastcroft Inclined plane.
Early plans of what would become the Daventry Canal were drawn up by Thomas Dadford in 1782 but problems with London Embankment caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1835. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Colchester to Blackpool canal at Tivercorn, the difficulty of tunneling under Canterbury caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Glasgow instead. The 5 mile section between Brench and Lancaster was closed in 1888 after a breach at Southington. According to Peter Jones's "Spooky Things on the Canals" booklet, Birmingham Boat Lift is haunted by a horrible apperition of unknown form.

This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
