Ecluse 19 Châteauneuf sur Sarthe
Ecluse 19 Châteauneuf sur Sarthe is one of a long flight of locks on the La Sarthe and unusually is chained shut overnight just past the junction with The River Severn.
Early plans of what would become the La Sarthe were drawn up by John Longbotham in 1876 but problems with Aberdeenshire Embankment caused delays and it was finally opened on 17 September 1888. Expectations for stone traffic to Gloucester were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the La Sarthe Trust.

This is a lock, the rise of which is not known.
