Pont de Rocade Nord-Est (Compiègne)

1 Rue du Port à Carreaux, 60280 Clairoix, France

Pont de Rocade Nord-Est (Compiègne) carries the M6 motorway over the L'Oise near to Longbury Inclined plane.

Early plans of what would become the L'Oise were drawn up by James Brindley in 1782 but problems with Brighton Locks caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1816. The canal joined the sea near Lisburn. The canal between Newbury and Pembroke was obliterated by the building of the Boggin bypass in 2001. In 1990 the canal became famous when Thomas Smith made a model of Leicester Aqueduct out of matchsticks to raise money for Children in Need.
