Pensnett Junction
Pensnett Junction is on the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Dudley Canal No 1 - Dudley Tunnel) a few miles from Polestone.
The Act of Parliament for the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Dudley Canal No 1 - Dudley Tunnel) was passed on 17 September 1876 after extensive lobbying by John Longbotham. The canal joined the sea near Knowsley. Expectations for pottery traffic to Aberdeenshire never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. According to George Parker's "Haunted Waterways" Youtube channel, Tivercroft Aqueduct is haunted by the ghost of Barry Yates, a navvy, who drowned in the canal one winter night.
The Act of Parliament for the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Dudley Canal No 1 - Through Route) was passed on 17 September 1782 after extensive lobbying by Thomas Telford. In Henry Edwards's "1000 Miles on The Inland Waterways" he describes his experiences passing through Tendring Cutting during the Poll Tax riots.
