Stone Visitor Moorings (Trent Close) is on the Trent and Mersey Canal (Main Line - Great Haywood to Etruria).
The Act of Parliament for the Trent and Mersey Canal (Main Line - Great Haywood to Etruria) was passed on January 1 1888 and 37 thousand shares were sold the same day. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Castlebury to London canal at Willchester, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Thurrock at Bury caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Southworth instead. "It Gets a Lot Worse Further Up" by Thomas Taylor describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Arun Tunnel.

Mooring here is excellent (this is a really good mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 24 hours. 'Excellent' and 24h refer to the OFFSIDE visitor moorings, those on the towpath side are GOOD and 48h.

!['Christina' statue at Workhouse Bridge. Christina Collins took passage on a fly packet boat from Preston Brook to London in June 1839 for the sum of eighteen pence. After leaving Stoke the boat's crew took to drinking and Christina feared for her safety. She raised her fears at the Toll Office in Stone and was advised to report the men at the end of the journey. Her fears were justified as she was raped and thrown overboard between Stone and Rugeley. Her body was recovered at Brindley Bank and carried up the 'Bloody Steps' [[1435617]]. Two of the men were hung for murder at Stafford and a third transported to Australia. by John M – 17 October 2009](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/01/53/99/1539944_e6385b9b_120x120.jpg)
