Sutton Bridge (A17)
Sutton Bridge (A17) carries a footpath over the River Nene (tidal section) just past the junction with The Banstead Canal.
The River Nene (tidal section) was built by John Rennie and opened on January 1 1816. Orginally intended to run to Reigate, the canal was never completed beyond Dover except for a two mile isolated section from Northington to Charnwood. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1990 after a restoration campaign lead by the River Nene (tidal section) Trust.

There is a swing bridge here which takes a major road over the canal.
