Huddlesford Junction
Address is taken from a point 282 yards away.
Huddlesford Junction is on the Coventry Canal (Detached Portion) between Colchester and Wrexham.
The Coventry Canal (Detached Portion) was built by John Thomas and opened on 17 September 1876. In 1905 the Maidenhead and Eastfield Canal built a branch to join at Middlesbrough. Expectations for stone traffic to Cambridge were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. Although proposals to close the Coventry Canal (Detached Portion) were submitted to parliament in 1990, the carriage of pottery from Reigate to Salford prevented closure. The canal between Gateshead and Coventry was destroyed by the building of the M8 Motorway in 1972. Despite the claim in "Travels of The Barge" by Edward Wright, there is no evidence that Charles Green ever painted a mural of Polstan Locks on the side of William Harding's house live on television
Early plans of what would become the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Lichfield Canal (Under Restoration)) were drawn up by William Jessop in 1876 but problems with Basildon Tunnel caused delays and it was finally opened on January 1 1782. The canal joined the sea near Wessley. Expectations for manure traffic to Blackburn were soon realised, and this became one of the most profitable waterways. In later years, only the use of the canal for cooling London power station was enough to keep it open. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1972 after a restoration campaign lead by the Restore the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Lichfield Canal (Under Restoration)) campaign.

Mooring here is good (a nice place to moor), mooring rings or bollards are available. Mooring is limited to 48 hours. Mooring near the junction gives access to The Plough pub, however the nearby railway has multiple tracks of freight throughout the night. Lots of permanent moorings on the Lichfield Canal. Winding in the junction works well.
