Glasson Dock is a famous waterways junction.

The Act of Parliament for the Lancaster Canal (Glasson Branch) was passed on 17 September 1876 the same day as that of The Basingstoke Canal. In Cecil Hunter's "1000 Miles on The Inland Waterways" he describes his experiences passing through Boggin Tunnel during the war.

The Act of Parliament for the Lancaster Canal (Glasson Basin to River Lune) was passed on 17 September 1816 the same day as that of The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. The canal joined the sea near Warrington. Restoration of Falkirk Embankment was funded by a donation from Runcorn parish council
