Navigational Notes

Mooring at the junction of the Weston Canal and the river channel down to Sutton Weir (aka Frodsham sluices) is DANGEROUS, especially if the water level at Pickerings lock is above 4.8 metres. Keep to the east (Sutton or Aston bank) to follow the navigation line into the Weston Canal (towards Weston Docks) or when heading upstream, to avoid the pull of the stream towards the sluices. The reedbeds around the derelict Sutton Locks prevent mooring on the east side, and mooring on the west side at the junction is unsafe, because of the sluices. The river is also very shallow on the west side between the large 'Danger Weir' sign, and the next upstream bend, about 300 metres south.
