[River Chess] confluence with the River Colne in Rickmansworth. The Chess, along with the Colne and Gade, gives rise to the name of the district of Three Rivers. The name arose [River Thames] distributaries (most numerous in the case of the Colne), and man-made distributaries such as the Longford River. Three canals intersect this stretch: the Oxford [River Crane, London] the Colne and the Yeading Brook.
