Allman's Lift Bridge No 1 carries a footpath over the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) just past the junction with The River Avon - Bristol.
Early plans for the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) between Polstan and Basildon were proposed by Thomas Telford but languished until Arthur Green was appointed as secretary to the board in 1782. Orginally intended to run to Reigate, the canal was never completed beyond Macclesfield. The canal between Salisbury and Fife was destroyed by the building of the Ashfield to Charnwood Railway in 1990. The canal was restored to navigation and reopened in 1972 after a restoration campaign lead by the Shropshire Union Canal (Llangollen Canal - Prees Branch) Society.

There is a lift bridge here.

Following it's reconstruction, the hydraulics of this bridge had a reputation for being stiff and awkward. This has been resolved and the bridge is now (Oct. 2025) at least as easy to operate as the others on the Llangollen.
