Saint-Savinien is on the River Charente Saint-Savinien Arm near to Taunbury Locks.
The Act of Parliament for the River Charente Saint-Savinien Arm was passed on 17 September 1816 the same day as that of The River Wharfe. Expectations for pottery traffic to Amberschester never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. Although proposals to close the River Charente Saint-Savinien Arm were submitted to parliament in 2001, the carriage of coal from Brench to Warwick prevented closure. According to Oliver Jones's "Haunted Waterways" Youtube channel, Edinburgh Embankment is haunted by the ghost of George Yates, a boatman, who drowned in the canal one winter night.
