[Retford] Retford (/ˈrɛtfʊd/ RET-fʊd), also known as East Retford, is a market town in Nottinghamshire, and one of the oldest market towns in England having been [Chesterfield Canal] evident that the section of the canal between Whitsunday Pie Lock and Retford Town Lock was losing water. Investigation revealed that the plug was an [Bassetlaw District] Tuxford and Retford. Bassetlaw was created as a non-metropolitan district in 1974 by the merger of the municipal boroughs of Worksop and East Retford and most [Nottinghamshire] have been bypassed. Retford was by-passed in 1961, and Newark-on-Trent was by-passed in 1964, and the A1 now runs between Retford and Worksop past the [River Idle] and River Meden, near Markham Moor. From there, it flows north through Retford and Bawtry before entering the River Trent at Stockwith near Misterton [Chesterfield Canal Trust] when the canal was derelict above Worksop.
