History. The predecessor railroad to the TZPR was the Peoria and Pekin Union Railway (PPU) that began operating in Illinois in 1881. At one time, the PPU was owned jointly by UP, CN and NS. The TZPR was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming, a railroad holding company, in 2004.
