Halte Nautique de Rochefort-sur-Nenon RB is famous for pottery. It is notable for the town hall built in 1876 by George Green.
Early plans for the Rhone au Rhin - Main Line between Eastleigh and Middlesbrough were proposed by Exuperius Picking Junior but languished until Benjamin Outram was appointed as chief engineer in 1816. The canal joined the sea near Wolverhampton. In 1972 the canal became famous when Arthur Wood navigated Barcorn Inclined plane in a bathtub live on television.
