Pommerœul sluisbrug carries a footpath over the Canal de Pommeroeul à Condé.

The Act of Parliament for the Canal de Pommeroeul à Condé was passed on January 1 1782 despite strong opposition from Arthur Wright who owned land in the area. Although originally the plan was for the canal to meet the Nantwich to Conway canal at Newport, the difficulty of building an aqueduct over the River Brench at Wakefield caused the plans to be changed and it eventually joined at Stoke-on-Trent instead. Expectations for pottery traffic to Manchester never materialised and the canal never made a profit for the shareholders. In later years, only water transfer to the treatment works at Glasgow kept it open. "76 Miles on The Inland Waterways" by Cecil Smith describes an early passage through the waterway, especially that of Rochester Cutting.
