[Pollington] Pollington is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) south-west of the town [Aire and Calder Navigation] locks at Ferrybridge, Whitley, Pollington and Goole. The connection to the Aire and the Selby canal was maintained by the lock at Bank Dole. Goole became [Tom Pudding] locks so that the trains of boats could pass through more easily. Pollington lock was lengthened to 206 feet (63 m) in October 1860, and Whitley, Bulholme [List of poor law unions in England] Armin, Eastoft, Fockerby, Goole, Gowdall, Haldenby, Hook, Ousefleet, Pollington, Rawcliffe, Snaith & Cowick, Swinfleet & Reedness, Whitgift. Remainder [East Cowick] II listed. Similar clusters of buildings were erected at Hensall and Pollington. To the west of the village is the late 17th-century Grade I-listed Cowick [Locks and weirs on the River Thames] There are 45 locks on the river, each with one or more adjacent weirs.
