Newbridge Swing Bridge

Newbridge - Bradford Mill
Draw Bridge, Meadowbank CW7 2PN, United Kingdom (Winsford RB 63)

Information about the place
Newbridge Swing Bridge is a minor waterways place on the River Weaver (Main Line) between Hunt's Lock Weir Entrance (Channel leading to the drydock and sluices) (3 miles and ¼ furlongs and 1 lock to the north) and Outlet of unnavigable upper River Weaver (1 mile and 6½ furlongs to the south).

The nearest place in the direction of Hunt's Lock Weir Entrance is Vale Royal Visitor Moorings; 5½ furlongs away.

The nearest place in the direction of Outlet of unnavigable upper River Weaver is Meadowbank Mine and Works; 4¼ furlongs away.

There is access (suitable for wheels) to the towpath here.

Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring), mooring rings or bollards are available. Moor to bollards on bridge abutments (but high walls) or pontoon (but need gangplank to reach the bank). Lovely location makes it worthwhile.

There is a swing bridge here which takes a track over the canal. The bridge does not need to be opened for normal waterway traffic.

Navigational Notes

The swing bridge has approximately 1.85m/6ft clearance when closed, and is slightly higher on the side away from the pivot. Almost all narrowboats will be able to pass under with chimneys off (typical roof boxes are fine) but taller craft may not.

The back channel fixed bridge is approximately 10cm/4in higher than the swing bridge, if avoiding the beams underneath.

The swing bridge is padlocked and can only be operated by CRT. Phone Vale Royal Lock 01606 636199 during opening hours, otherwise CRT North West 0303 040 4040.
